We all have those days. The ones where your to-do list is full, your calendar is stacked, your content is planned… and your energy? Nowhere to be found.

As business owners, creators, leaders, and parents, we navigate a lot. Some days, showing up feels effortless. Other times, just getting through the day feels like a win.

So what do you do when you know you “should” show up—but you just can’t?

Here’s the truth most people won’t say:

You don’t have to be “on” to lead. You just need to be real.

In this post, I’m sharing how I’ve navigated visibility during tough seasons (especially as a mom and entrepreneur), and how to keep showing up with integrity, even when you’re tired, stretched, or simply not feeling it.

Why Showing Up Feels Hard Sometimes (and That’s Okay)

Let me start with this: you’re not broken for feeling like it’s hard.

We live in a digital space that glorifies consistency but often forgets that we’re humans, not machines.

For me, as a mother and business owner, there are days when my son wakes up at random hours and I’m sleep-deprived before my first client call even begins. There are times when I’m in deep work, and suddenly he needs me. And at the end of the day, after showing up for my team, my family, and my clients, the idea of showing up for myself or my audience can feel impossibly far away.

If you’ve ever felt that tension between what you want to say and what you have the capacity for, you’re not alone.

And more importantly? You’re not failing.

Redefining What It Means to “Show Up”

We’ve been taught that visibility = loud. That success requires daily posting, constant launches, being everywhere.

But here’s what I believe:

Consistency isn’t about showing up the same way every day. It’s about staying connected to your voice, even when your capacity changes.

Your visibility doesn’t have to be performative. It just has to be intentional.

Let me share a few ways I continue showing up, even when I’m not feeling fully “on.”

3 Gentle Ways to Show Up When You’re Not at 100%

1. Lean into softer formats

You don’t need to record a new video, write a long caption, or go live. Sometimes, showing up looks like:

  • Sharing a meaningful quote
  • Reposting something you said weeks ago that still resonates
  • Writing a short reflection in your stories or newsletter

2. Be transparent without oversharing

Let your audience see the human behind the brand, without making them carry the weight of your experience.

A simple: “This week is heavy, so I’m moving slower” is honest, powerful, and connective.

3. Let your systems support you

If you’ve planned ahead, give yourself permission to use what you’ve prepared. If not, lean on idea banks, templates, or a post that took less energy but still delivers value.

I have idea banks for:

  • Long-form content
  • Reels
  • One-liner posts for engagement

I pull from these when my bandwidth is low, so I don’t have to create from scratch.

The Fear of Falling Behind (And Why It’s a Lie)

A lot of us worry that if we don’t post, we’ll lose momentum. Be forgotten. Lose our audience.

But here’s what I’ve learned:

People don’t forget you as easily as you fear. They remember how you made them feel.

The point isn’t to be perfect. The point is to build trust and connection that holds over time.

So if you skip a post or miss a day? It’s okay. The real connection lives in the cumulative experience you create.

If You Need More on Visibility…

Earlier on the podcast, I shared an episode on conventional and unconventional ways to show up as a business owner. If you’re craving more ideas, that episode pairs beautifully with this one. You can find the link in the show notes, or search for it on Heartfelt Hustle.

Final Word: Lead From Where You Are

Your voice doesn’t need to be loud to be powerful. It just needs to be honest.

So the next time you’re tired, overwhelmed, or questioning whether you can show up “right” ask:

“What’s the kindest, clearest way I can show up today?”

And trust that it’s enough.
