My Identity Evolution: What Burnout, Motherhood, and Reconnection Taught Me

There was a time when I wore the word workaholic like a badge of honor.
I believed that if I wasn’t the hardest-working person in the room, I wasn’t doing enough.
My to-do list was endless.
My self-worth was tied tightly to my output.
And while I had dreams of exploring, resting, and enjoying the little things, those lived on my “someday” list.
The present was for the hustle.

Looking back, I see it now. That identity that was constantly on mode wasn’t just from the online business world.
It was generational.
Cultural.
Deeply ingrained.

I saw it in my mom, a homemaker who was always doing something, always in motion.
I saw it in my dad, a banker who never truly stopped working, not even after retirement.
In India, where I grew up, hard work isn’t just valued. It’s revered.
Good grades.
Good degrees.
Constant productivity.
That’s how we earned love, respect, and approval.

Without realizing it, I carried that into my business. And yes, it did serve me.
Until it didn’t.

The Breaking Point(s)

My first burnout hit me like a storm.
It wasn’t just mental fatigue, it was physical collapse.
I landed in the ICU. I ended up in a wheelchair.
My body quite literally forced me to stop.

That experience gave me clarity. I promised myself I would do things differently.
And I did… for a while.
But old patterns have a way of creeping back in, especially when you’re still trying to prove something.

The second burnout wasn’t as intense, but the signs were familiar.
This time, I caught myself before things spiraled. I asked for help. I slowed down.
Because now… I had even more to lose.

I had become a mother.
And suddenly, the idea of being glued to my screen for 12 hours a day felt unbearable.
Not just because I couldn’t, but because I didn’t want to.
I wanted to be present for the small moments.
Not just physically, but emotionally, mentally, and energetically present.

Life Beyond the Business

It wasn’t just motherhood that opened my eyes.
Working alongside my husband made me realize that even though we were together all the time, we weren’t really together.
I missed the slow conversations. The dates. The connection that existed outside the context of work.

And there was another layer, something I hadn’t talked about much until now.
I’d spent a few years distant from my parents and sister.
When we reconnected, I began to treasure every call, every shared laugh, every moment.

All of this made me see…
My life isn’t just a checklist.
It’s layered. Emotional. Beautiful. And real.

And for the first time, I was ready to live it.

Who I’m Becoming

The biggest shift?
I’m discovering who I am outside of my business.

For so long, my identity was wrapped up in what I did, how much I produced, how well I performed.
But now? I’m peeling back those layers.

I’m reconnecting with hobbies I’d forgotten.
I take time off not out of burnout, but because I want to.
I’m creating more, but chasing less.
Building routines. Choosing joy.
Being kind to myself.

And the ripple effect?
It’s everything.

My business is still growing but now it’s growing with me, not at the cost of me.
I’m more intuitive, more creative, more grounded.
And my relationships feel deeper than ever.

A Reflection for You

If this journey has taught me anything, it’s this:

🌱 Our business will only grow to the extent that we allow ourselves to evolve.

Sometimes that evolution looks like growth.
Other times, it looks like stepping back.
Reassessing. Realigning. Reconnecting.

It’s not linear. It’s not always clear.
But it’s honest.

So here’s a question I want to leave you with:
Journal on it,
Reflect on it,
Let it sit in your heart:

✨ If you didn’t feel the pressure to prove anything… who would you become?

That’s where your truth lives.
That’s where your most aligned business begins.
Not with performance. But with presence.
